Q: Please tell us about yourself.
Originally from Manchester, UK, my husband and I emigrated to NZ in 1998 with our three young sons. I worked for years as an early childhood teacher, and then dabbled in Real Estate.
A few years ago, my husband convinced me to take my writing seriously. You could say he has been my inspiration--writers are always their own worst critic, but he has always believed in me and spurred me on.
I've always loved writing - my imagination even terrifies the heck out of me! haha. Yet, I find myself toning down my writing as I'm not sure I'm ready to expose the true sicko hiding beneath this motherly façade just yet.
Q: Tell us about your book.
An Impossible Dilemma is a psychological thriller/horror novel. It's about a couple, Victoria and Jonathan, who find out their daughter has an incurable, untreatable illness-well, it is treatable, although not legally. Victoria is faced with a series of tragedies and eventually teams up with her father-in-law, Frank. Together they embark on a terrifying journey.
Q: What inspired you to write An Impossible Dilemma?
I don't know really. I've always been intrigued by how parenthood can turn the mildest mannered person into a raving lunatic--the desire to protect your child is fierce. Years ago--after reading Stephen King's Pet Cemetery-- I remember feeling absolute horror for what the father did. At the time, my middle son was the same age as the little boy in the book and I know, in my heart of hearts, I would have done exactly the same if in his position.
Q: How much time per week do you spend writing/editing your work?
That's a tough one - I'd say 40 but my husband would say 80 hours per week. I can't switch off I'm afraid. I'm lucky enough to be writing full time now, so I don't have the added distraction of a day job.
Q: If you could meet three authors, which authors would you choose?
Stephen King is obviously at the top of my list. I've grown up with him, in fact I remember when I very first heard about him as a child, I was aged around 9 or 10 at the time. My lovely Nanna had gone to the cinema to see Carrie and she told me all about it when she got home. I have been obsessed with him ever since.
Diana Gabaldon has got to be number two. She created the most delicious and lovable character in Jamie Fraser--I've been madly in love with him for years. In fact, I think my husband is secretly jealous of him haha.
Number three is Martina Cole, and although she freaks me out, I'd love to meet her. Her books are very near the knuckle and scary--not in the Boo! sense, but they get inside the heads of some very disturbed individuals indeed.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
I'm working on three books:
Positively Murder is the second book in the Adam Stanley series and should be out in the next week or two.
Embellished Deception is a standalone thriller novel set in Cumbria UK. It is due to be released early next year.
Mind Benders is the third book in the Adam Stanley series. This is only half written at this stage but will be released next year.
