Chevelle Allen is my pen name. I've been writing in one form or another since childhood. My professional background includes writing for Emmy-Award winning television and the stage. But my first love was acting. Unfortunately, I became deeply frustrated by the roles being offered, and decided to further pursue writing the kinds of roles I wanted when I was a working actress. One thing led to another-and here I am. This was absolutely a love project and my very first foray into novel writing. I hope your followers enjoy the read!

Tell us about your book.


At its heart Her Love and Regrets is a love story. Janine Powell is a woman of considerable accomplishments who-for a variety of reasons-walked away from the love of her life, Michael Josey.  But when a group of law school friends plan a getaway, she knows she'll see him again and the thought is both exhilarating and unsettling. In the weeks leading up to the trip, a flood of erotic memories which include BDSM explorations with Michael overwhelm her. When she sees him, she begins to truly understand and embrace her truth- theirs was a love rooted in friendship, compassion, trust and desires expressed in traditional and taboo ways.That realization brings her to an important decision. I won't tell you the rest because your followers have to read the book!

What inspired you to write Her Love and Regrets?


Honestly, I was enjoying fabulous wine with a group of friends in Manhattan and I got completely distracted. I noticed a man and woman who had a chemistry that was palpable and yet, they didn't seem to be 'a couple.' I watched the way they looked at each other and the subtle exchanges between them. My imagination went wild imagining a backstory for them. One idea led to another. As the story took shape, I realized that I really wanted to tell a love story that accurately and loving portrayed true BDSM practitioners. 

How much time per week do you spend writing/editing your work?


Generally I write at least two to three hours per day. However, at different points along the journey, I was writing up to six hours per day! It was nuts! Again between all my other responsibilities and this trilogy project, there were days where I was working eighteen to twenty hours a day. But I never felt more alive and invigorated. 

What are you working on at the moment?


I'm actually taking a break. But I've been jotting notes and ideas in preparation for a period piece set on the eve of the American Revolution. I'm also working on a piece I'm tentatively calling Catch and Release. It'll be a first-person perspective about a woman who wholly owns her sexuality and pursues partners for the fun of it-but that has consequences-for her and them. I'm 25 years old, from Southern California, and I've been writing non-stop since high school. I started writing as a way to deal with issues I had at the time. Instead of talking about them, I let my characters speak for me. Since then I've built a drive to say what I need to say through the themes in my stories.

Tell us about your book. 

High stakes, intense sex, and betrayals and plot twists that aren't done for the sake of shocking the reader--these are all at the book's core. I've done my best to make everything organic. Blending social realism with well-rounded relationships is very much me.

What inspired you to write The Scorpion's Empress?

It was a mix of the 2016 American presidential elections and how I feel about the country's economic situation.

How much time per week do you spend writing/editing your work?

At least a few hours a day actively writing/editing. I'm constantly thinking about my work even when I'm not working.

What are you working on at the moment?

A spiritual sequel to The Scorpion's Empress that takes place two hundred years later with new characters. We'll learn what happened to Raj and Videl. The far-reaching consequences of their actions plays out over the next few books I'm working on afterward

Okay, I’m actually kidding, but while you’re  here, there are a few things about me for those who don’t know. I am currently a 911 dispatcher for a local county in Southwest Missouri. I spend my days with my girlfriend, my cat (shown left), and my leopard gecko. Writing has been a dream of mine since I first developed a love of reading; I’m guessing around the age of ten. With both of my parents being English majors, it was hard to ignore the call of the word world. So, here we are, nearly a decade later, and I’m finally reaching for the dream half of my life in the making.

Not In Canterbury Anymore
 
Cool breezes kissed Ben’s forehead as he slowly began to open his eyes. The light stung his eyes and nearly blinded him again, closing his eyes quicker than opening them. “Ow! Turn the flipping lights off will you?”
He lay back, the ground feeling surprisingly comfortable, despite the moist feeling, as if it had been raining for a few days. It was quite soft and he felt like he could go to back to sleep for a few hours. His head burned like it had the mother of all hangovers. The fresh smell of pure grass graced his nostrils – the wonderful sensation making him forget the pain in his head.
Then he realised that something wasn’t right.
Wait… Grass?
Ben picked himself up and took in his surroundings. All he could see was lush woodland and tender grass beneath him, the sun warming him with calming light. It was a complete contrast to where he was a moment ago.
The last thing he remembered was being chased in an alley. Then a flash… and that was it. How did he end up here?
He checked himself, noticing he was still wearing his school uniform and he still had his backpack. Instinctively he opened it up and looked inside to see if anything had been taken. Everything was still there – the cigarettes, his mobile phone, iPod, schoolbooks and the World Soccer magazine he had pinched. Ben took his phone and searched through his list of contacts for Clive, calling him to see if they got away. The phone wouldn’t connect. After checking it, Ben realised he had no signal. He tried again and again to call. Nothing.
He slung his bag over his shoulder and held his phone up in the hopes of finding a signal. He didn’t know if it was the trees that were blocking his signal or not, but no amount of walking he did helped. “Argh, stupid thing!” Ben cursed as he moved around. “Why won’t you work? Most powerful phone network my…”
He stopped when he heard a low growl from behind. At first he thought it was his stomach rumbling, but then the growl came again. Very slowly, he turned round.  He gulped when he saw a large dog, roughly the size of a great dane. Its crimson red fur standing on end and its glinting, yellow eyes looked towards Ben with the apparent intention of making him its next meal. Ben always had a fear of dogs since he was attacked by a Jack Russell a few years ago, but a dog this size made him twice as apprehensive.
“Nice doggie…” he said in panicked tones, backing away. “Nice doggie…”
With every step Ben took back, the huge dog took a step forward, glaring with blazing eyes that could light up the darkness of a cave. The dog snarled at Ben, opening its mouth to show rows of razor sharp teeth.
“Oh bum!”

​While Demarcus and I weren’t a couple any longer, he and Melia were still good friends. But I couldn’t hold that against her, since they’d known each other well before I was an egg in my mother’s ovary.
I pulled up to my apartment building and into a parking space that had my apartment number painted on it. My place wasn’t the Ritz, but it was home.
I flipped the switch, engaging the convertible top. “This was a good visit. You warned me against breaking into Zaid’s house. Thank you, I won’t do that anymore.” When the roof was fully closed and the locks clicked into place I cut off the engine, opened the door and got out of the car. Before closing the door I leaned down and looked over at the gorgeous demi-god that any red-blooded woman would’ve loved to take to her bed and said, “Goodbye, Demarcus.”
He leaned over and fixed his smoldering eyes, that promised great sex, on me. “Aren’t you going to invite me in for a night cap?”
I glanced up at the sky, which was sunny and bright. “It’s not dark yet.”
He reached for the driver’s seat headrest and let his thumb caress the leather, moving it in slow circular motions. I instantly imagined his thumb caressing a certain part of my body. A small, sensitive part of my body.
“We could hang out for a couple of hours,” he said, his voice low and deep. “We could do whatever grown people do to pass the time and then, after we’re done, it’ll be time for that night cap.”
I hadn’t had sex in god knows how long and, even though I would never mention it to him, he was my last lover. I took a deep breath, clamping down on my resolve. “No, thank you.” I closed the door, slamming it hard.
He angled his head so that he could look at me through the window. “You know you were the best lover I ever had, Baby.”
I narrowed my gaze on him. He’d told me that line time after time. “If that’s so true then why did you have sex with any female with a pulse while we were together?”
He opened his mouth as if to say something and then snapped it shut again.
I thumped my hand on the door. “Yeah, thought so.” I turned on my heel, leaving him behind.
“Rain check then?” he hollered after me.
I walked toward my apartment, swinging my keys around my finger. “No,” I said without giving him a backward glance.
I didn’t worry about him following me. Demarcus would find something else to amuse himself with. That was another reason we’d broken up—there was so many of them. I wasn’t enough to hold his attention for long, something more interesting than little old me always came along.

​Being hired by the Alpha of the Lycan pack to solve the mystery of his son’s death could make my name as a PI in the Undercity—if it doesn’t get me killed first. Not only am I looking for a perp who obviously won’t hesitate to commit murder, but even before I get working on the problem I’m being threatened. That’s not going to stop me though. Neither is interference from Zaid, the hot Vampire who keeps popping up at the most inopportune times.
Yet this turns out to be anything but a straightforward case. I’m learning more about the workings of the Undercity than ever before, and what I’m finding out is pretty ugly. It’s making me question everything I thought I knew about the Houses, and what I’m missing by not being claimed by my father. But that may well be a question I won’t get a chance to ponder, because even tapping into every ability I possess might not be enough to help me survive the Lycan Job.
