Book Excerpt

After a few more hours, the forest gave way to the foothills that bordered the Northern Mountains.  They paused to survey the landscape.  
                “Granite Hills…you did it, Riv.  We’re here.”  Alex paused to glance around.  Gray stones jutted out of the ground with green moss growing out of cracks.  Small trees and bushes struggled to find footholds.  Even though it was spring, a brisk wind chilled her cheeks and snow coated the tops of the tallest peaks in the mountains to the north.
                “My friend herds his goats right over there.”  Riv kicked his heels into his horse’s flanks.  “His family just moved the goats up here to the spring meadows.  They’ll stay for the summer.” 
Ahead of them, the goats were spread out through a shallow valley, perhaps as many as a hundred mature goats with many young kids.  The goat herder appeared to be the same age as Riv, but shorter and thinner.  He wore a tattered wool coat over a pair of worn britches and old boots, topped off with a goatskin worn like a cloak. 
Riv waved to his friend and trotted over to him.  He jumped off his horse and hugged him tightly.  “Thicket, you’re not going to believe who this is.  She’s the Keeper of the Keys for the Council of Elders.  Really.”  Then he turned to Alex.  “Keeper, this is my friend, Thicket.”
                Thicket’s eyes bulged.  “You’re the real Keeper?”  He looked at his friend and back again.  “What are you doing here?”
                Alex grinned.  “Riv said that you saw Lady Opaline’s carriage nearby.  Can you show it to me?”
                Thicket glanced at his friend.  “It’s just over the hill.  Why did Lady Opaline come all the way out here?”
                “Show me the carriage.”
                “This way.”  Thicket ran to the next hill.
                “Are you out here alone?”  Alex glanced around for his parents.
                “My parents went to the market to get some food.  I’m all right by myself.  I like it.”
Alex and Riv tied their horses to a small tree and climbed up the side of the hill.  Thicket hunkered down behind some rocks and pointed ahead. 
“Down there.”

Author Bio

When I was younger, I never knew what I wanted to be when I grew up. Part of my reason for dropping out of college was because I didn’t know what to major in. I was envious of my sister who knew from an early age, she was going to major in math. Good for her, but math was the last subject on my mind. I joined the Navy and found a track I liked. I became a photographer. I covered local news items, accidents, and even shot portraits. It was fun, but not a career path. When I got out of the Navy, I wanted to finish college but I was lost again. What to major in? I chose accounting because all businesses needed it and I went on to get my Bachelor’s and an MBA. After working in the field for a year, I went back in the Navy and asked for any assignment other than accounting.  It worked. After 22 years in the Navy, I retired. My husband and I moved into our motorhome and hit the road. Unfortunately, he passed away and I went back to work at a government job. Then I found writing. I hadn’t written a thing since I was 14 but I was smitten by the bug and have been writing ever since. “Gossamer” is the sixth book I’ve had published and is the third book in a four book series, “The Chronicles of Eledon.” Hope you enjoy it. ​It was New Year’s eve, and I couldn’t believe another year had flown by.  I had barely gotten my degree a year ago, and now I had published a paper, made presentations, and was granted a patent.  And, we were on the verge of selling KS Biotech, and stood to make a lot of money.
 
Julie came over in the late afternoon, and Sam opened a bottle of French Champagne.  We toasted to each other’s success in the coming year, and marveled at what had transpired over the past twelve months.  Kathy had gotten married.  I’d become a pro-domme.  And Sam and I had traveled to Europe twice and Japan once.
 
We went to the French restaurant, which we hadn’t been to in a long time; actually, the only times this year may have been on my birthday, and when we celebrated the patent granting with Raj.  There was a special multi-course New Year’s menu, with wine-pairing.
 
George, the waiter, told us that they had only one seating, so we could stay as long as we wanted.  And that there would be fireworks in the nearby park.  I suspected that Sam, Julie and I would have some ‘fireworks’ of our own, tonight.
 
We really hadn’t seen much of Julie since Kathy’s wedding on Kauai.  It wasn’t for lack of friendship, or desire, but just a fact of our current existence, putting all of our time and energy into the company.
 
The dinner was incredible – both the dishes and wines very special, and George ‘sneaking’ a platter of all the desserts, as well as a nearly-full bottle of the dessert wine, onto the table for our enjoyment.  And weight gain.  Sam and I were only running sporadically now, but we would have to resolve to keep fit in the new year.
 
Sam drove us home in silence, all of us fading rapidly, due to the excessive food and drink.  We went downstairs, and Sam stepped behind the bar.  I was about to get upset with him – we certainly didn’t need any more alcohol – until he emerged with three bottles of water in his hands.
 
“Thank you, Sam,” Julie said gratefully.
 
Taking a swig of his water, Sam asked, jovially, “Anybody up for the sauna?”  Both Julie and I groaned.
Julie said, “How about if we just take a quick shower together, and then climb into bed?”
 
We undressed by the desk, and got into the shower together.  Sam bathed Julie, while she bathed me, while I bathed Sam.  I held his cock and teased him a little, but – as I had suspected – he wouldn't be ‘up’ for anything tonight.
 
But the shower had awakened me, at least enough to think about making it with Julie.  When we walked into the playroom, Sam groaned, “We missed midnight!”

Julie moved over and kissed Sam, “Good night, Sam.  And ditto for me.”  Then, Julie moved back to the other side of the bed, and I crawled over Sam and on top of Julie.  Sam knew his limits, and hadn’t complained.  He would get to watch us now, and ‘have’ us in the morning.
 
I kissed Julie savagely, and we held each other tight.  Then, I turned around, and we lay in a sideways ‘69’ position.

About The Author
