About the Book

Title: Song of the Oceanides
Author: JG Zymbalist
Genre: YA/NA fantasy/steampunk
Song of the Oceanides is a quirky but poignant coming-of-age tale about children, Martians, freaky Martian hummingbird moths, and alluring sea nymphs.
The first thread relates the suspenseful tale of a Martian girl, Emmylou, stranded in Maine where she is relentlessly pursued by the Pinkerton Detective Agency’s Extraterrestrial-Enigma Service.  The second thread concerns her favorite Earthling comic-book artist, Giacomo Venable, and all his misadventures and failed romances.  The final thread deals with a tragic young lad, Rory Slocum, who, like Emmylou, loves Giacomo’s comic books and sees them as a refuge from the sea nymphs or Oceanides incessantly taunting and tormenting him.

As much as anything, the triple narrative serves to show how art may bring together disparate pariahs and misfits—and give them a fulcrum for friendship and sense of communal belonging in a cruel world

Author Bio

J.G. Źymbalist is the pseudonym of a very reclusive author who grew up in Ohio and West Germany.  He began writing Song of the Oceanides as a child when his family summered in Castine, Maine where they rented out Robert Lowell’s house.  There, inspired by his own experiences with school bullying and childhood depression, the budding author began to conceive the tale.
For several years, J.G. Źymbalist lived in the Old City of Jerusalem where he night clerked at a series of Palestinian youth hostels.  There he wrote the early draft of an as yet unpublished Middle-Eastern NA fantasy.  Returning from the Middle East, he completed an M.F.A. in poetry at Sarah Lawrence College.
The author returned to Song of the Oceanides while working for the Martha’s Vineyard Historical Society, May-September, 2005.  He completed the full draft in Ellsworth, Maine later that year.
He has only recently decided to self-publish a few of his previous works.  Foreword Reviews has called his writing “innovative fiction with depth,” and Kirkus Indie has called his style “a lovely, highly descriptive prose that luxuriates in the details and curios of his setting.”

About the Book

Title: The Failure of University Education for Development & What To Teach Instead
Author: Samuel A. Odunsi, Sr.
Genre: Nonfiction, education, economics

Finally, a New Big Idea that Solves Our Toughest Problems.
New book by Samuel A. Odunsi, Sr. defines the problem of tacit cultural knowledge in education and how to solve it.
University education may benefit the individual, but it has not led to overall economic development.  For many developing countries, the hope behind university education far exceeds the results. The ideas and solution presented in this book provides a way to equalize the results of university education with the hope and unrealized expectations behind it.
  • Education cannot teach everything about development. The most crucial aspects of development are tacit in nature and cannot be directly expressed or taught. Instead, they are acquired passively in culture.
  • Liberal Education has struggled with this problem. While its lofty goals are well defined, they cannot be met without the tacit knowledge for development, which it can barely define, much less teach.
  • The concept of “Cultural Diversity” recognizes that there are differences between cultures, including tacit cultural knowledge.
  • The tacit knowledge needed for development is not specific knowledge. Instead it is the connection of the elements of the western economic model, that may be learned in school, to the language capacity that all human beings already possess and use for creatively expressing the spoken language.
  • This is why expatriates from the West and the developed countries of Asia often perform successfully as managers and entrepreneurs in the developing countries, despite the constraints of underdevelopment. To them, the elements of the economic model are merely vocabulary to be expressed as management, administration, or entrepreneurship, using the language capacity.
  • The purpose of university education should be to connect technical knowledge about economic development with the language capacity that students already possess. In the same way that the human language capacity can be repurposed for the use of a second language. Graduates can then express the economic model with the versatility and creativity they already use for expressing the spoken language.
  • The means for achieving this purpose is now available and presented in the book and on this site: HumanRethink.net.
  • Help bring real change to our world. Make it happen now. Contact [email protected]

Author Bio

Born in Nigeria, Samuel A. Odunsi, Sr. left for college in Texas in 1982 and has lived in Austin ever since.
A new big idea about how education actually works and how to bring real development to the rest of the world has finally been developed.
I stumbled on this discovery decades ago, after years of working as a freelance research assistant in the Austin, Texas area. I realized that this is what marked the difference between education that could make the university graduate an effective manager, no matter the area of specialization, and education that merely promised to do so. It was the difference between the disorder of the world in which we live, and one where every country can be as developed as the western nations.
But I was not an academic, and I’m still not one. This meant I couldn’t pursue the new ideas full time. Nevertheless, I spent much of my free time researching and substantiating these ideas. However, the demands of making a living in a business that is unrelated, and the demands of family made it a never ending project.
Meanwhile, 9-11 happened, then the Arab Spring, then ISIS.  In all these events, I believe my ideas had an important role to play. I believe they provide the essential but missing narrative in these events as well as in many others. The new ideas provide the answer to a lot of questions.
In 2015, after the loss of my father and younger sister, I realized I may never have the time to present the ideas in the 5 volumes I had always planned.  At the same time, I also realized that the solution was more important than the presentation or its length. I then proceeded to write down my key ideas in 1 short volume, using language that is accessible to the casual reader. I now have a book ready!
I’m in the process of presenting the contents of the book on Humanrethin.net, broadcasting them as much as I can, taking on all challengers, and raising funds to begin implementation anywhere on the planet.
But first, I need to get the ideas out there.  I’m hoping this book tour will help.

The Return Of The Klutz Curse

Well, I might as well admit how Scrooʝe and I got together. But if it ever goes public, I’ll deny it to my last breath!
That semester, I didn’t go straight home to Chicago when classes ended because I was working on a math theorem for a university competition and had to turn my paper in by noon on December 22nd. I was so excited when I finished at 11 a.m. I called Camille to tell her I’d made it with an hour to spare. Now you’d think I would’ve learned by now that God don’t like ugly. But there I was, on the phone, bragging that I had the competition in the bag, and not paying attention to what my fingers were actually typing when disaster struck.
Instead of hitting the save key I hit delete! And my paper disappeared into the computer netherworld. Camille was trying not to laugh on the other end, while I was trying not to cry on mine. That’s when I remembered I’d saved a copy to my USB. Hurray! I just had to run over to Dickens Library and print it out.
Now I may not be an athlete, but that morning I raced through the campus as if I had superpowers. I snatched the paper from the printer and ran out of the library, anxious to make it to the math department. Unfortunately, it was raining and the stairs were slippery. Sure enough, when I reached the last step, my feet slipped out from under me and I went tumbling through the air. I flew through space screaming in terror and preparing to meet my Maker. Although certain that I was about to crack my fool skull against the sidewalk, I couldn’t get over how embarrassing this was and hoped it wouldn’t get worse. But of course, with my luck, I just knew it would.
Then I hit the ground. The concrete didn’t hurt as much as it should have because I crashed into Scrooʝe and knocked us both into a deep puddle of rainwater in the shallow spot at the foot of the steps.

: On Top of the World
Author: David Lamb
Genre: Contemporary, African-American Romance
2016 BEST FICTION-Pacific Book Awards. FROM THE FUNNY AND NATURALLY BRILLIANT DAVID LAMB, award-winning playwright of the New York Times celebrated play, Platanos Y Collard Greens, comes a modern spin on Dickens’ classic tale that perfectly combines humor and romance in a story re-imagined for our digital, consumerist age.  This version of Scrooge and Belle is familiar, yet unlike any you’ve come across before. Scrooge, or rather Scrooje, is music’s biggest superstar, with one hundred million albums sold, fifteen million devoted YouTube subscribers, two and a half million Facebook likes, and twenty-five million fanatical Twitter followers known as Scroojites. Belle, is a legal shark who gulps down her opposition voraciously and whose beauty and stunning figure causes traffic accidents as she zips through the sidewalks of Manhattan stylishly adorned and taking no prisoners.   They never imagined being music’s most powerful couple, but that’s exactly what happened when Belle fell head over heels and gave the Coke-bottle glasses wearing, plaid and stripe attired, scrawny, biggest nerd on her college campus the ultimate makeover, turning him into a fashion impresario whose style sets trends from Milan to NY Fashion Week and who can be seen courtside at the NBA Finals sporting a perfectly-fitted cashmere suit.   Then it happens. Belle realizes too late that she’s created a chart-topping monster as Scrooje’s ego explodes and he starts acting a fool.   Now, it’s been three years since they ve spoken. But tonight at Hollywood s biggest red carpet event, with the whole world watching, they’ll be given a second chance.

Author Bio

David Lamb is a native New Yorker, born and raised, bitten with the writing bug since he was in elementary school and had handwriting nobody could decipher. Like Charles Dickens, David grew up a poor boy in the big city who found that the pen really is mightier than the sword.  After finishing college David went on to law school at NYU, but all the time writing was still his heart. While working as a lawyer by day, at night he transformed into a writer and eventually wrote and produced the award-winning hit off-Broadway romantic comedy Platanos Y Collard Greens. Being a writer and having the chance make people laugh out loud while challenging them to think about the world around them, and inspire each of us to believe in the power of love and our own ability to overcome life’s challenges is a great gift that David truly enjoys and thanks you for allowing him to share with you in On Top Of The World (Until The Bell Chimes)

Book Excerpt

Anna grabbed Brendan from behind, wrapping her arms around his shoulders. As she caught her breath, she peered up at the ship. The air smelled like soda, lots of sticky sweet soda. Stairs and ladders traced the entire length of the tube, spiraling down to the base. The lights were no longer visible, since they formed the base resting on the grass. Markings engraved the metal from base to tip. There were no flags, no words of any language she knew.

“Wow,” exclaimed someone from behind her. It jarred her from staring at the rocket. The townspeople around her were pulling out their cell phones, taking pictures and recording videos.
“Come on.” Anna twisted Brendan’s collar in her hands, and he looked her in the eye. “Let’s go.”
He gestured to the ship. “No, but—”
“Let’s go.”
The corners of Brendan’s mouth and eyes turned down. Anna didn’t care; she had t
o get him
away from whatever just landed in town. Brendan took one long look at the rocket. She took his hand and pulled him through the crowd. They strode about fifteen or twenty feet before the scraping of metal-on-metal screeched. They stumbled, covering their ears. Though she wanted to get Brendan a safe distance away, her curiosity overcame her, and they swerved around.
A metal plank slid from the rocket toward the ground. Once it extended, a light flashed at the point where the plank met the rocket. Part of the wall disappeared, revealing a gaping, octagonal hole lined with neon-blue lights, giving her a glimpse inside a smooth metal hallway.
Some of the crowd backed away, each of them stepping back up Main Street a few paces. “It’s a space ship.” Brendan cried out. “We’re going to meet aliens. Real aliens.”
“Shut up. You’ll scare everyone. We have no idea...” Anna’s admonition died on her lips
Men emerged from the doorway. Human men, or at least they looked like humans. Anna
sucked in a breath as she gripped Brendan’s hand. The men paraded two by two in unison. They wore red shirts and pants, with gold breastplates that came down to their waists. Gold and silver, rectangular shields rested at their sides. The Roman legion was paying them a visit. She blinked but the odd vision stayed the same.
This couldn’t be a hoax--it was far too elaborate—but she wouldn’t admit this was an alien spaceship, even to herself. She didn’t have a single logical, coherent explanation to grasp onto. Adrenaline sped through her veins, sending her into near panic. It didn’t matter what this was or wasn’t to her as long as she kept Brendan safe.
“It’s an army.” Brendan clutched at her hand
She pushed him behind her, ready to run at the first sign of trouble. Every muscle tensed, waiting.
The two columns of soldiers stopped after about two dozen men exited the plank. All at once, the two lines shifted to face each other, forming a pathway lined with soldiers.
At the top of the plank, a lone soldier appeared. He surveyed the town, squinting in the early light of dawn. Tall and muscular, he filled the doorway with his frame. His sandy-brown hair, cropped short, accentuated his square jaw. He wore the same body armor as the others, yet a red sash across his front extended into a short red cape behind him that snapped in the breeze. The man’s eyes settled on the crowd of onlookers before he walked down the metal plank.
Anna couldn’t tear her eyes away from the scene. Still, she pushed Brendan up the street toward the house. A streak of movement caught her attention, and she jumped. She almost yelped, but the blur that ran up to her came into focus
“What’d I miss? What’s happening?” Hannah skidded to a halt beside them
“Shhhhh,” Anna continue
d to push them all back.
“They’re aliens,” Brendan whispered
Anna squeezed his hand in warning. Hannah’s eyebrows lifted and light danced in her eyes. She

swung toward the rocket and the strange soldiers. She bounced on the balls of her feet, as if Christmas had come early. It was the most exciting thing to happen in Sparta since the founding of the town.
When the last solider reached the others, they raised their arms in a strange salute and he strutted straight through their ranks. He stood in front of the waiting crowd. He studied every face. The townsmen stared at him, stepping backward up the street again, away from the gleaming invaders
“Greetings. My name is Varick. I am searching for the one you call Anna Cora.” He rested his hands on his hips
Anna froze and then shook her head. She couldn’t have heard that right. Her heart tumbled over itself. She feared she would faint before she got Brendan into the house when the tingling at the top of her head blurred her vision.
“Can you tell me where to find Anna Cora?” Varick asked the crowd.
Everyone in the town turned in her direction. Her breathing became heavy. His gaze followed their line of sight and met her eyes. She thrust Brendan’s hand toward Hannah. She didn’t know why this stranger was looking for her, but if she could distract him, it would buy Brendan and Hannah a few minutes to run. She stepped away from her brother and best friend, raised her chin, her eyes wide and unblinking.
“I am Anna Cora.” She sounded far bolder than she felt. A flash of pride tightened her chest
Varick smiled at her. He motioned to the soldiers behind him, and they rotated in unison once again. He marched toward her, his soldiers in his wake. Anna willed herself to stand perfectly still, desperate not to shrink from this man. Stopping less than a foot from her, his smile broadened into a grin, and a small measure of her fear dissipated.
“Your Majesty, I am your new Protector. I have come to take you home.” He knelt before her on both knees, his palms upturned and resting on his legs. The soldiers followed suit.
She didn't know whether to laugh or run, so she did neither. She eyed Hannah, who had pulled Brendan off to the side of the street. Hannah shrugged.

“Bay!” I screamed.
He came from nowhere, I couldn't stop him if I tried. Standing next to the cave I saw her fall, then he appeared, taking her with him as he disappeared. I ran as fast as I could to where they were just standing.
“Seamus, who was that?” I screamed.
“I..I.. I don't know. She slipped and then she was gone,” Seamus stammered.
“You know it figures, I fall in love with a beautiful girl and she gets kidnapped by.. wait, he was an elf!” I exclaimed.
“Elf?” questioned Seamus.
“A pointy eared, nature loving, bastard stole my girl!”
Seamus looked at me, “I'm going to pretend I didn't hear anything but pointy eared, nature loving bastard took the duchess.”
