Q: Please tell us about yourself.
I'm a freelance writer and author from Chesapeake, VA. I'm married. I have a two year old daughter. I'm a lifelong fan of horror fiction.
Q: Tell us about your book.
An Infinite Sorrow is the story of Richard Spoller. He moves to the small town of Desolation Falls from Chicago because of his family situation. So he's been dropped into unfamiliar territory, way out of his comfort zone. Just when he manages to make some friends, weird things begin to happen. His best friend/love interest vanishes, and no one in the town remembers she ever existed. He has to unravel the mystery of why these things are happening to save everyone.
Q: What inspired you to write An Infinite Sorrow?
A lot of my writing comes from a variety of inspirations, to make something original. I love old shows like The Twilight Zone, The Outer Limits, Night Gallery. When I was a kid I enjoyed reading the works of R.L. Stein (Fear Street, Goosebumps). Harlan Ellison (I Have No Mouth But I Must Scream). H.P. Lovecraft. Recently I read an article of a theory called Roko's Basilisk. This all sort of ended up blending together into An Infinite Sorrow. An element of Wes Craven's Scream got tossed in there too. These teens are in this situation they have to figure out before their all killed, or disappear.
Q: How much time per week do you spend writing/editing your work?
I'm very much a mobile writer. When I was getting started it was suggested that I had to shut myself in an office for several hours a day, but that's not really my style. I'm always writing, so usually I'd typing notes or writing on my cell phone. I'll be talking to my wife, playing with my daughter, and then stop and do a paragraph. I try to do 1,800 to 2,000 words a day, then I'll sit down for an hour at night and edit. I also have an editor who helps me out. My writing is spread through the day, but I'd say several hours.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
Other than promoting An Infinite Sorrow I'm also helping a fellow Author, Shawn Clay, with his first novel Firsthand Witness To The Fall. It's a very original zombie story. I run a small (very small) publishing company, Terminus Press. I'm currently working on a project, Kellum House. It's a haunted house, mystery set in a small town. I'm also working on The Howling Dead, which deals with the end of the world at the hands of Zombie Werewolves.
